Ecuador’s Sangay volcano erupts, causing darkness and gloominess

Sangay volcano in central Ecuador, which is on the Pacific Ring of Fire, erupted on 20 September 2020, blasting a pillar of smoke some 10 kilometres high (ref. 1). The ash clouds that spread caused the day to become dark and gloomy for six provinces – Chimborazo, Bolivar, Guayas, Los Rios, Manabi and Santa Elena.

The Bible prophesies that there will be clouds, darkness and gloominess at the time of the end.

… for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand; A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains…

Joel 2:1-2

The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty men shall cry there bitterly. That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness. A day of the trumpet…

Zephaniah 1:14-16

The reason for the clouds, darkness and gloominess is the eruption of volcanoes across the world. The first two trumpets, or vials, will erupt volcanoes and even super volcanoes (ref. Revelation 8:7, 16:2) and also the entire Pacific Ring of Fire (ref. Revelation 8:8-9, 16:3). The fifth trumpet, or vial, will erupt a particular volcano somewhere in the Middle East, the seat of the beast (ref. Revelation 16:10-11, 9:1-11).

And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.

Revelation 9:1-2

Thus, as the end approaches, there will be more and more eruptions.

Beware also, in this time of the end, the darkness will be both literal and metaphorical.

For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.

Isaiah 60:2

Remember, Jesus Christ the Son of man is the light of the world (ref. John 12:46, 8:12, etc), and he is also the Word of God (ref. John 1:1-5), i.e. the Bible.

I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

John 12:46

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… All things were made by him… In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

John 1:1-5
